Wer Tommie Harris heute auf der Bühne erlebt, der schaut auf 80 Jahre gelebte Blues- Gospel und Jazz-Geschichte: authentisch, ehrlich, echt. Tommie Harris wurde 1938 in Bessemer, Alabama, geboren. Als Kind einer musikalischen Familie wurde ihm die Musik in die Wiege gelegt. Schon während seiner Zeit in der High School trommelte er auf zum Teil selbstgebauten Schlagzeugen, sang im Gospelchor und legte an den Wochenenden auf den Partys seiner Verwandtschaft 45iger Bluesplatten auf. 1959 trat er wie viele Schwarze in den USA aus Frust über Perspektivlosigkeit und anhaltende Rassentrennung in die Air Force ein. Über Korea führte ihn sein Weg nach Deutschland. Hier gründete er 1964 seine erste Band, die bald erfolgreich durch die amerikanischen Stützpunkte tourte. Auch nach dem Ende der Zeit in der Armee war klar: Seine Zukunft als selbständiger Musiker liegt in Europa. Seit 51 Jahren lebt Tommie Harris nun in Deutschland und tourt durch die ganze Welt. Er spielte mit verschiedensten Musikern, darunter große Namen wie Jimmie Reed und Luther Allison, in dessen Band er bis zu Allisons Tod spielte und trat immer wieder mit eigenen Bandprojekten - wie aktuell unter dem Namen Tommie Harris And Friends - auf. Anyone who experiences Tommie Harris on stage today is looking at 80 years of lived blues, gospel and jazz history: authentic, honest, genuine. Tommie Harris was born in 1938 in Bessemer, Alabama. As the child of a musical family, he was born with music. Already during his time in high school he drummed on partly self-made drums, sang in the gospel choir and played 45 blues records on the weekends at the parties of his relatives. In 1959, like many blacks in the United States, he joined the Air Force out of frustration over a lack of prospects and persistent racial segregation. Via Korea, his path led him to Germany. Here he founded his first band in 1964, which soon toured successfully through the American bases. Even after the end of his time in the army, it was clear that his future as an independent musician lies in Europe. Tommie Harris has been living in Germany for 51 years now and tours all over the world. He played with various musicians, including big names such as Jimmie Reed and Luther Allison, in whose band he played until Allison's death and appeared again and again with his own band projects - such as currently under the name Tommie Harris And Friends.
